Connect a phone to your desk
Not yet, and we would rather say so here than let you find out on a train. Grid is desktop-only in the alpha: the phone screens are built and shipping in the app, but nothing off your Mac can reach them.
Why not
- Your desk listens on your Mac and nowhere else. It does not put a port on your network, so there is no address a phone could open.
- That is deliberate, and it is not a setting we plan to relax. The desk can start agents, read your files and open a terminal. Unauthenticated, that does not belong on a network.
- You can see the phone screens today: make a browser window about 390px wide on the Mac itself and point it at your desk. Same board, same four screens.
What actually carries the phone
- The Grid service: one Docker image you run yourself, or a hosted one we run for you. It carries card sync across your devices, team collaboration, audit logging, and the phone app's transport.
- It moves cards, not code — cards, plans, board state and memory. Diffs are referenced by commit, never copied, so "3 cards need you" on a phone is not source code on a phone.
- Phone access and push notifications arrive together with it, in beta, on Solo and up. Self-hosting it is included with every paid plan, not an enterprise upsell.
Once you have one
Point a phone at your Grid service and this page remembers it. There is nothing to point it at during the alpha, so expect this to fail until the service ships.
